Elastic{ON} 2017!

Since I've worked for NASA through my new contract with USRA, I've had a lot of contact with open source software as the new Data Engineer on the Extra Vehicular Activity (EVA) team.

This March, I attended Elastic{ON} to learn more about how we currently use Elastic for sorting and searching EVA data for https://eva.nasa.gov/. I actually learned a lot while having a great time. Here are some photos that hopefully capture my experience!

I'm so ready! I grew up in San Francisco - and I love seeing it slowly evolve in to a futuristic tech hub. This side of the pier was totally desolate just a decade ago.

USRA is a non profit space research association that succeeds because of open source software like Elastic. It was awesome seeing how both sides are profiting from this business model.

Choices can be modeled by data .. and yarn? sure, why not. It was a surprisingly accurate depiction.

Because, live Data doesn't need a caption.

The basics!

I actually had no idea that elastic had security tools. Very neat!

One good idea after the next.

They did a great job with the inside of the pier 48

This talk was about the new version of Elastic Search coming out later this year and the changes we can expect to see.

This talk went over the algorithms used for machine learning with Elastic. Definitely struck my interest.

This was a neat feature. Experts to test my hardest Elastic questions!

Because who doesn't want more data?

And of course, there were great views from the pier to catch up on some work in between the talks.

Preparing for summer 2014 @NASA Ames

As I prepare for another fun and challenging summer of full time work @NASA, I wanted to look back at the projects I completed last summer - just in anticipation for another crazy few months ahead!

 Tilt Rotor Test Rig

TTR Calibration Body, which I drafted in Creo and 3D printed

Tiltrotor Test Rig Forward Frame - site visit at Kern Steel in Bakersfield, CA

THE Tiltrotor itself!

The project I am most proud of: Optimization of a Horizontal Axis Wind Turbine

This is a screenshot of one of my first CFD runs- for the wind turbine using the software: RotCFD

These are more details behind the work that went in before we began testing
